My name is Ava Lombardo, and I have been playing soccer my whole life.
I grew up playing soccer, whether it was for a team or just in my grandparent's backyard. Before I understood it, as a soccer player, there were high expectations for me because of how well my father did when he played, and the successes he achieved.
For me, I find soccer as an escape from whatever happened that day. I get to put it all behind me and work it out. I really got in to soccer when I was 11, when I began to really understand and develop a love for the Game.
While playing soccer, I have learned to not dwell on my mistakes, to instead use them as fuel to want to do better next time. On and off the field, I try to find ways to do better to improve in any way that I need to.
My biggest obstacle as a player was proving my ability to myself. Due to my dad's success as a soccer player, and his involvement in the Club I play for, I felt I needed to show that I am not just on the team because I am a coach's daughter, but rather, I am a good player, and I deserve to be there just as well as anyone else does.
In school, I work hard to be a good and disciplined student. My goal for the rest of my high school years is to continue to work hard, and to create the path toward my goals to play and study in college. I am an accountable player and student and I plan to only improve in the years to come.
