My name is Madison McGoldrick. I grew up as an Irish dancer. For a majority of my life quick feet and perfection have been drilled into my mind by my instructors. It was only a matter of time before I found a ball and it found its way to my feet. The adrenaline of dancing with the ball gives me more satisfaction than anything else. So, I kept practicing. I kept learning new skills, or “dances”, that would help me beat my opponents. Overtime, my motivation for soccer has only grown and my footwork and ability to play the sport has only gotten better. Eventually soccer became my full time job and an ambition that I would like to follow. Being faced with better competition has only made me want to practice more and out-play my opponents. I play offensive/defensive mid for Connecticut Football Club, as well as for Newtown High School varsity team and Newtown Soccer Club. My strength is field vision to create opportunities for the team and myself. I feel that I have a great team-first attitude and take direction well from coaches.
In the classroom, I am considering the studies of pre-law, political science or business and have a 4.46 weighted GPA. A majority of my school classes are honors and AP. In the classroom I strive to be the best student. I plan to enroll in a college that will challenge me just as much in the classroom as it will on the field. I also enjoy taking part in both track and golf. I participate in several clubs such as Hawks Honor Society, Student Government, and UNICEF where I am on the board as secretary. I volunteer and help my community as much as I can and thoroughly enjoy taking part in Families United Newtown outside of school to celebrate the birthdays of the month with kids of special needs. Overtime, I hope to only get better with the sport and wish that in college, while working on my dreams outside of soccer I can still continue to play the sport I love.
