Hi, my name is Catarina Bastos and soccer is my passion. I was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where soccer is the only important sport on television. With this influence, I was kicking a soccer ball around as soon as I learned to walk. As soon as I turned four years old, my mom, my sister, and I moved to the United States of America. A month after my family and I settled into Boca Raton, Florida, my mom signed me up for SABR Soccer Recreational League, as well as signing me up for a swim club. I grew up playing two amazing sports, but at the age of nine I decided to progress in soccer and finish my journey with swimming. Once, I had quit swimming, I joined a travel league called Team Boca Soccer Club. Now I am sixteen years old, and I am still playing soccer. I play at Sunrise Prime ECNL. I got back into swimming (but only throughout high school season). I play the full ninety minutes of each game as an outside back (left or right). I also was honored to be selected as the captain of my team at Team Boca. For high school soccer, I played for Spanish River Community High School. As a Freshman, I made the Varsity team and played the full 90 minutes of each game (as an attacking mid, attacking forward, holding mid, and if our team was in danger, center back). I was also awarded Rookie of the year by my coaches, and selected as Honorable mention from the district board. Now as a Sophmore, I continue playing full game, and my coaches shift me all around the field, as long as I am most benefiting the team where I am playing. I recently moved school and I will be studying at North Broward Preparatory fror the next 2 years, and will also be playing soccer at NB. In addition, over the summer I attend multiple ID camps (for example: Future 500 and EXACT ID Clinic) and continue my training regiment, to stay in shape when pre- season comes around. I also attend ID camps throughout the year, I am not just limited to summer. Also, I am currently on the Florida State Team, and after a summer camp in Alabama, I have been selected for the region pool. Throughout the year, I also attend multiple ODP trainings. I can confidently say, through my experiences with different coaches and teams, I can play anywhere on the field (except goalie), and soccer is what I want to do with my life.
Academically, I have a 3.2 unweighted GPA,. I am currently taking four college level courses, and I maintain A's and B's in these courses. These courses help me immensely, because they rocket my HPA up to a 3.7. My relationships with my teachers is great, they are all men and women I look up to, and they all have something good to say about me. My principal is even a big supporter of our schools' soccer team because of our very big winning streak! Out of school, I volunteer as an assistant coach for the middle school I previously attended (Omni Middle School), where I obtain many community service hours. The majors I am most interested in are business and journalism, but these are not set in stone.
Soccer truly means the world to me. If everything went the way I desired, I would attend a college with an outstanding soccer program, at least decent academics, and I would be receiving a good amount of playing time. This would all lead up to me playing professional soccer after I graduate. I will play this sport as long as I can, because soccer is my Obsession!
Thank you so much, for taking the time to read this. Please contact me if you are interested.
Sincerely,
Catarina (Cat) Bastos
