Personal Statement

When people ask about my passion, I tell them one word: “soccer!”  I’ve played since I was 4 years old.  It is part of who I am.  I love practice.  I love games.  I just love to play, and I plan to play as long as possible.  While I hope to study medicine in college, I’ll have a soccer ball at my feet.

If you were to ask others about me, some things you’d likely hear would be…

  • STRONG ACADEMICS.  I have always done well in school and place a high value on my performance in the classroom.  I have earned all A’s for my entire education, including gifted, accelerated, and Advanced Placement (AP) classes, and I am currently ranked 1st in my class of 603 students.  My goal for high school and college is to perform at the highest level of academics and athletics.

  • TEAM PLAYER.  I have been selected as a captain on every soccer team I’ve played on, under 6 different coaches in Academy, ECNL, and Middle School (and hope to in High School as well!).  I believe I’ve been chosen because of my leadership…organizing other players, leading warm-ups, encouraging others during difficult drills, and pace-setting when we run.  I make an effort to be the first to practice and the last to leave.  I love my team.  They include some of my closest friends, and I get along with everyone.

  • HARD WORKER.  I am known for working hard and pushing myself to constantly improve.  My coaches have consistently complemented me for learning quickly and embracing their feedback.  While I was known as a “bulldozer” in elementary school, I’ve worked hard to improve my touch and passing to become a more complete player and contributor all over the field.  I take pride in shutouts and love to celebrate the success of our team.

ADDITIONAL INTERESTS.  I have many personal interests and hobbies.  In addition to playing soccer 5 to 6 days a week, I enjoy cooking and baking for friends and family, working with kids at my church, learning a bit of sign language, and solving puzzles (I’m a Rubik’s Cube addict).  One of my other proud accomplishments is being part of a four-time world champion Odyssey of the Mind team.  Hopefully, this explains the colorful costumes I'm wearing that are all over the web!  I've shared a link to an article about my Odyssey team here in my profile.
