My name is Corynn DeGroote and I am a junior at West Vigo High School. My goals are to play soccer in college and go into the medical field. I am very committed to this sport and am wanting to play at the next level, and I am always working hard to get better. For example, I go to my school's weight room and lift weights and work out with the guidance of my school's strength and conditioning coach every morning before school. I am very coachable and always eager to learn something new. Being part of a team has taught me many life skills, such as being disciplined, organized, a leader, and academically and athletically driven.
I have played soccer since I was 6 years old, and began playing travel soccer with the Terre Haute Flyers at the age of eight. By playing travel all these years, I have learned many skills that would eventually prepare me to play high school soccer. I continue to play high school soccer in the fall and club travel soccer in the spring.
My freshman year of high school I started varsity. I primarily played outside midfielder and forward in travel league. My main position in high school has been forward until this year where I have alternated between forward and attacking midfielder. This is because the teams we have played have recognized me from previous years and started putting two-to-three defenders on me at all times. So far, throughout my high school career, I have broken several records. My freshman season I broke the most goals in a season record with 24 goals, 28 during sophomore year and tied with 28 my junior year. I also have another school record for the most goals in a career with 80 goals, so far. I have been named "Player of the Week" for the state of Indiana through Max Preps for the week of October 7, 2019. I was also named "Player of the Game" during the Hoosier Cup Tournament through Max Preps on September 1, 2018. I have received All-Conference all three years of my high school career as well as receiving All-District my junior season, being the first in West Vigo boys and girls soccer history for receiving this title.
