Personal Statement
My name is Shamsa Al Sayegh and I aspire to further my education and continue to play the sport that I love, soccer. I have been playing soccer since the age of 5 where I learned the importance of teamwork and sacrifice and I have created lifelong bonds through this sport that I cherish. I fell in love with the sport as soon as I started playing and I knew from a very young age that I did not want to stop playing. I fell in love with playing as a goalkeeper as it gave me a position of leadership and a unique experience playing soccer. Playing soccer as a woman in the UAE was always a challenge and opportunities to play competitively were few and hard to come by but throughout the years we have made breakthroughs in the sport here for women to allow us opportunities to play. I was starting on the first girls team in the emirate to compete in a boys club league and this is one of the many huge challenges that I have overcome to pursue my soccer career.
I want to play at college level to be able to study a major, sports and exercise science, which relates to my sport, as what I have learned already so far has helped me increase my physical strength which has allowed me to play without injuries . I have the ability to absorb information quickly and lead a team. I hope the be able to use this ability to become a successful college athlete.
