Personal Statement
I have been playing year-round competitive soccer in Germany since I was 8 years old. After one season as the only girl on a boys team called English Football Club Berlin, I joined a girls team at FC Viktoria 1889 Berlin in 2017 and have been with that club ever since. Over the years, I have helped my Viktoria teams to work their way up from playing in the lowest league in Berlin to winning the championships of the second-highest (2022) and highest (2023) citywide leagues. That resulted in Viktoria's promotion to Germany's highest league for U17 girls in the 2023 to 2024 season, the Bundesliga, where we came in 7th out of the 10 top teams in the northeast region. I was a starter in midfield in each of the games I could play (16 out of 18), and I'm proud to say that we really improved our level of play from the first half to the second half of the season, holding our own against more established clubs and having fun in the process. I will bring that experience and drive to any team I play for.
I have also been a member of the state of Berlin's selection squad every year since 2019, growing through the U12, U14 and U16 levels to being accepted to the U19 team for next season. These Berlin teams play against the selection squads of Germany's other federal states in regional competitions, culminating in an annual national tournament. Given my performance as a starting center back and team captain at this year's tournament, I am one of only a handful of girls born in 2008 to be invited by Germany's Federal Soccer Association (DFB) to attend a selection camp for its national team in Frankfurt in early July.
From the feedback I have gotten from the DFB, my coaches and my teammates, I believe that what they especially value in me is my overview of the game. As both a midfielder and a center back, I can consistently see the best way to move the ball and get it where it needs to be. Whether or not I hold the title of captain, I also do all I can to be a role model and leader on the field and off -- from celebrating with my teammates after a big win to shaking off and learning from a tough loss.
I have lived in Berlin all my life, but I go to German-American high school and speak English and German fluently. I am very excited about the possibilities that a US college offers to play a game I love at a highly competitive level while getting a quality education. I have been told that I am "extremely coachable," and I would welcome the opportunity to prove how I can put my passion and skills to work in your team.
