Personal Statement
Hi, my name is Jaela Sahagun and I currently live in South Korea. My dad is in the military, so we move frequently and been living overseas most of my life. I've been playing for Daegu High School varsity soccer team as starter since freshman year. Ever since I was little, soccer has always been my go to sport. I've also played many other sports, which I did very well in, but none of them compares the passion and love I have for soccer. As I got older, watching college soccer games ignited a spark, a future goal that one day I want to play college soccer. I'm working very hard to achieve this goal. I want to surround myself with competitive supportive teammates to represent our school. Playing in a collegiate level would be a dream that I'm ready for it to become a reality. Not only do I want to be in an amazing soccer program, I want to have the best education that will give me many opportunities as well.
Since living in South Korea for several years, I have joined a Korean soccer program to strengthen my skills. I was put into a group of older boys, and for some that can be intimidating, but I didn't let that faze me. It was an amazing learning experience that taught me different speed of plays that can go on during a game. At the end, it put me in a better shape and the skills I've learned was applied into my school soccer season.
As a soccer player, I am versatile when it comes to positions. During offense, not only I can control the speed of the game, I can also create plays for myself and my teammates to achieve scoring. As much as I love being offense, I find defense very enjoyable. Being able to protect my goal and create many options for my team to setup is something I'm proud of achieving as well.
Lastly, my education is extremely important. I take it very seriously. I always aim to get all A's during school quarters and I have been successfully achieving it. I've taken honors classes and an AP course which I've excelled in. I want to be well rounded and make sure I put the same efforts in playing soccer also into my school work. I always strive for success in both. I believe in strong work ethics. I know it's not easy, and balancing both can be a challenge, but I prove others that it can be done. My hopes are to play in a school that would not only strengthen my soccer abilities, but also successfully gain my education and continue to mold the best version of me.
