Personal Statement
Hi, my name is Tina Barghouth and I am a student-athlete from Orange County, California. I currently like in Doha, Qatar. My main position is right back, however, I am a versatile player (as my coach would say) and have experienced other positions such as right midfield and center midfield. In addition to soccer, I take part in other sports such as volleyball and track & field. I am a very determined person who works hard on and off the pitch. My coaches and teachers have described me as committed, versatile and energetic.
Moving around as a child it has been hard to adapt to change but I have managed to overcome these challenges. When I lived in Egypt there were very little athletic opportunities for female athletes thus making it harder to train and improve my skills. A few years later I came to Doha and ever since then I have been determined to find various athletic opportunities where I can practice and build on my skill sets.
My first year in Doha, I joined Evolution soccer and began training with their European coaches. I was 14 years old, starting for the U16 women's team. In the span of a few months, my coach decided to move me, and I, therefore, started playing with the U19 women's team. Since there isn't a women's league in Qatar our coach has organized conferences outside in order for us to compete. At the age of 16, I was chosen to play with the Evolution Women's soccer development squad where I was chosen to be captain. Alongside club training, I was a starting freshman for the women's soccer team at the American School of Doha. Off the pitch, in the classroom, I challenge myself with rigorous AP and IB course. Alongside these courses and training, I have participated in multiple Model United Nations conferences such as THIMUN. In doing all of this I have learned to manage my time accordingly and to always stay on top of the game.
Soccer is a big part of my life and I would love to have the chance to pursue my dream at the college level. Thank you for taking the time to read my personal statement and looking at my profile. I hope you see me as a well-suited student-athlete for your school team!
