Personal Statement
I am a center-back with two good feet, and am playing top level women's soccer in the WSL (Women's Super League) in England. I read the game well and build offensive plays through good distribution and breaking forward myself with the ball. I also want to study a media course ideally linked TV, film or video production and for that reason I have already rejected one NCAA Div 1 offer.
I am captain of London Bees Reserves and we play in the WSL Development League which has just kicked off the new 2014/15 season; we have best Oxford Reserves last weekend after earlier narrow losses to Chelsea & Reading Reserves. I have posted a new highlights video from our Cup match against Arsenal Reserves two weeks ago. In September I also made my debut for the 1st team against Doncaster Belles in WSL2, and played the whole 90 minutes; I marked England legend - Sue Smith who has 93 international caps for England.
My stats show I have played more minutes than any other player last season http://full-time.thefa.com/DisplayTeam2.do?id=136449579&divisionseason=385168647&seasonTeamID=904160569
Having played at the highest level of girls football in England for 7 years (in the FA Centre of Excellence program) with Fulham COE and Middlesex COE) I moved up to full open-age women’s soccer at the end of 2012/13 season with Barnet Ladies in the FA Women’s Premier League (National Division). In 2013, in my last season at girls u17 level, we finished joint 2nd in the league with Chelsea. We also played Manchester United, Everton & Aston Villa.
I was awarded Manager’s Player of the Year in both 11/12 & 12/13 and I would like to think that my positive attitude, teamwork, dedication, and consistency of performance are attributes that I can bring to a US College.
Academically I have attained the NCAA eligibility criteria; I took the SAT early in May 2013 (score of 930) and have submitted my high school GCSE’s (1x A; 9 x Bs). In summer 2014 I achieved grades B,C,C respectively in AS-Levels: Photography, Media Studies and Psychology, all of which I am continuing to A level.
A US soccer scholarship would allow me to play soccer at the highest level through my University years, whilst the opportunity to live overseas and experience a different culture would excite me.
I was born in Dubai, United Arab Emirates to UK parents, and spent the first 6 years of my life living in Indonesia and New Zealand. I have holidayed in the US, studied Spanish, and have played international football tournaments in Sweden and Denmark. Adapting to an overseas environment and different cultures is therefore something I look forward to rather than worry about. More recently, June this year ('14) I had the amazing opportunity to travel to Ghana with my college! We interacted with Ghanaian students and shared our different cultures. It was the most eye-opening experience and has really changed my perspective on life. The fact that American Universities are so versatile in who can attend excites me as I can learn about even more new cultures and meet incredible new people!
Finally, I have been talking with NCAA Div1 freshmen from my school and old club who I played against last season, and they are giving me a good understanding of what to expect. They have both been regular starters and they tell me that whilst our game in UK is more skillful, we need to raise our fitness and physicality!
