Personal Statement
When I play soccer I feel like I’m on cloud 9, it puts me in an extremely euphoric state. I have been playing soccer since I was 6 years old and I have found a safe haven when I do so. For 3 years, I was the only girl in a boys team and I’ve faced a lot of backlash for that but, it taught me how to be well-disciplined and how to work under constant pressure.
Throughout high school, I have successfully co-founded the first women’s soccer club in my school and had the chance to mentor young girls with the same interest and passion for soccer as me. Through the club, I’ve inspired them to stay active, determined and never give up on something they want to achieve. Coaching these young girls, helped enhance my leadership skills and has taught me how to manage greater responsibilities.
I am a striker in Jeddah Eagles, a professional women’s soccer team based in Saudi Arabia. When we were named champions of the first Saudi Arabian Women’s Soccer League, we were exposed to domestic and international media. I was proudly featured in the Spanish tv as reporters from Spain came over to interview us. They then proceeded to watch our training session and captured my half-court goal on video. That goal was later aired on one of the Spanish television channels.
I’m a very active member of my school’s community and was elected to be a part of the student council as the activities ambassador in my junior year. In my capacity as the activities ambassador, I have been part of the school’s annual sport’s day organizing committee. We created a competitive atmosphere for the students and made sure that we’ve improved their sportsmanship by teaching them that everyone was a winner and to have fun while exercising.
I am also a member of the MUN club where I’ve had opportunities to debate on an array of world issues and being a part of it, has taught me how to think from all possible perspectives. I have always shown interest in the human body since I was a child and have always wondered about how it functions. With time, my love for the human body and health in general, grew as I did, therefore, I joined the school’s first aid club. Joining the first aid club-where we learn how to perform the mandatory procedures when under critical health emergencies has stimulated my interest in biology so I’ve decided to get a bachelor’s degree in biology.
I always think of making the world a better place so I’ve been a volunteer dedicating my time for a better society. The most recent charity event that I’ve been to is a visit to an orphanage where I had the opportunity to provide the orphans with food and water, to spend time with them, and show them a fun side to the world.
I’ve maintained my high GPA throughout, because I’m able to manage my time. I stick to a very tight routine that allows me to study and have time for sports and extracurricular activities. These experiences show how well I have utilized my time and opportunities throughout high school. If the awards I've received are put into account, then I am proud of my achievements.
