Personal Statement
*Dual Citizen: USA/England*
Helping people is my purpose, and football is my passion. As I consider university, I am sure of two things: I want to have a career in medicine, and I want to maintain football as a vital part of my life.
My decision to pursue a career in medicine was not one made on a whim. It has been informed by the dedication, empathy, and strength offered by medical staff to my grandfather during his terminal illness. I have explored my interest by volunteering at the local St David’s care home for physically disabled, which has opened my eyes to additional aspects of the medical profession.
In May-June 2023, I completed the national GCSE exams, and attained 9 ‘A’ grades for all my subjects (Maths, Biology, Chemistry, English Language, Spanish, English Literature, Geography, Physical Education, and Religious Education). I am now studying Maths, Biology and Chemistry for my Advanced ‘A’ levels (national exams). Throughout this period of study and underpinning my success has been sport.
Since 2017, I played for the Queens Park Rangers (QPR) U12, U14 and U16 girl’s teams, training 2 nights a week, with Junior Premier League games on the weekend. While in the QPR U14 team (2020-21 season), I was voted player of the season, and in the 2021-22 season, picked for the UK Football Association’s England Talent Pathway Programme. Currently, I play for Hayes and Yeading Utd Women U18 in the Junior Premier League (Saturday), and for Ashford Town FC Women in the Greater London Women’s Football League (Sunday), with training continuing Tuesday and Thursday nights. This has been supplemented by individual coaching. In addition to this, for my school, I play hockey for the 1 st XI, and play the flute in the orchestra and wind ensemble.
With all my activities, I have learned the significant importance of time management. A student-athlete requires a great deal of commitment, responsibility, discipline, determination, and motivation. Each of these qualities have contributed to my character and, furthermore, are foundational traits I deem necessary to be successful in medical school, football and beyond.
