Personal Statement
More than a sport, soccer has become that path of self-discovery that feeds my passion to compete and fulfill my dreams. Yet what is tough to understand is that soccer may be for all, but not all are for soccer. Indeed, this discipline and many others that I have performed from a very young age made me realize that playing, kicking, and running around with that ball to defend that institution that I responsibly assume to consider my family is what I wish to continue doing. Pursuing my happiness turned into finding that thing that I am good at to work tirelessly and outdo myself.
Despite living in a country with limited opportunities, the guidance of coaches, family, and my hunger to challenge myself has permitted me to excel in diverse environments including the field, the school, and behind the dressing room.
My family has always considered that first comes my education at the hand of any sport. Having a father who competed professionally to represent Nicaragua in its swimming national team awakened that willingness to sacrifice many things to achieve that projection of myself. While always being a star student and keeping that balance to maintain my grades while engaging in leadership workshops, I earned the opportunity to represent my country at international Tennis competitions where I was ranked as number 1 in my nation (u-8, u-10, u-12); allowing me to win at international competitions. But, once I reached that level, I felt something was missing. I realized that my thing was team play through soccer.
My soccer journey began as a hobby playing in the youth categories at my school where I was shown to become a leader and simply have fun while moving around with that ball. Yet, my attitude, competitiveness, and skill made me stand out from the rest and I was called to the varsity senior soccer team when I was 12. Since the very start, that freedom became my strongest virtue that allowed me to become that goal machine and gain the respect of my teammates and coaches since seventh grade. Without looking for it and just putting in that extra work by arriving hours before training, catching the level of my colleagues, preserving an open mind to learn, and working individually after each session until I was called to my first national team. I've been able to forge my character and me as an athlete with the experience I've gained while playing for my high school Varsity soccer team, National Women's Division I teams (UNAN Managua FC, and Leyendas FC), and being called and competing for Nicaragua's National team in multiple categories including under-15 WYNT (Concacaf Champions League B), under- 16 WYNT, under- 17 WYNT, under-19 WYNT, under- 20 WYNT, and a calling to the Women's Senior National Team for goldcup Qualifiers.
Becoming a part of and having that opportunity to compete at college-level soccer will allow me to continue pursuing my dreams and passions while creating a change in Women's Soccer through my essence. I'm in search of the next step, conceiving a professional college career/title at a University in the United States while doing what I love most, playing soccer, and becoming a professional soccer player in the future to help my community. Discipline has always been my most important key to staying strong in my principles and goals. Most importantly, behind the skill, the speed, and the favoring genotype, is that drive and courage that becomes a crucial aspect towards victory and the captivating action in the field.
