Personal Statement
I started playing football when I was eight years old with a boys’ team. I enjoy the competitive element and the camaraderie of football which transcends race, religion, culture or beliefs. My desire to play football as a student athlete and professionally was cemented when I experienced playing international football with my club, and for my country in the AFF and UEFA championships. In 2019, I left home when I was awarded a football scholarship from the British International School Phuket to pursue my football aspiration and train with Cruzeiro FC . This opportunity further expanded my football horizon and exposure to inter alia the Brazilian football ideology and play styles.
I continuously challenge myself on and off the pitch and this is evident from my recent IGCSE exam results whereby I achieved all A and A* grades. Achieving top academic results is important to provide myself with the best opportunity to study and play football at a strong university in the US.
Training and competing with boys’ teams, playing with multiple teams in multiple countries with different system and play styles and leaving home at an early age has taught me independence, resilience, determination, adaptability as well as physical and mental strength. I am an invaluable team member who is extremely hardworking and coachable, and I am determined to reach my optimum potential and aspiration to be a student athlete in a top university, and to play football professionally.
