Personal Statement
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”-Nelson Mandela
I’m a 17-year old buoyant and a striving young lady who believes in seizing every opportunity and blessings that God has placed in my life. I'm a priceless piece of artwork to add to your institution's collection, which is a pathway to help me reach my goal of becoming a physical therapyst.
As I continue my studies and my research, my love for human biology grows . I made a decision to pursue a career in nursing as a prerequisite to obtain a masters in physical therapy.
Initially college meant gaining a new sense of freedom, responsibility, independence and a key to the start of my adult life. After watching my mother sacrifice everything putting me into an expensive school so that I can have the best education, I gained a deeper appreciation for seeking higher education. I promise my mom that I would continue to make her proud and strive for excellence through education. After my mom left to go back to Jamaica ,I felt like my support system had gone behind her ,but my uncle seemed to not let me fall back and be distracted. He made me stronger and tougher with his decision making . It is within my fortitude to keep my promise by attending university, obtaining a scholarship, and becoming a physical therapist.
College is a stepping stone and I view it as such. As a child, I was taught morals and values which includes, but are not limited to, integrity, courageousness and responsibility. I believe that college will test the above morals and values through different situations , and I anticipate the challenge. By attending university in another country, I will be exposed to a variety of new cultures and values and through these experiences, I am gaining a new sense of freedom from old customs. I'm not neglecting previous teaching but expanding on those and being independent through my decision making and relationship building.
My legacy in life is to help people especially sports players like myself who played soccer for 9 years to have a stronger body and even help them build up a better immune system. The start of college will allow me to achieve this through expanding my knowledge for my degree, multiplying and developing my skills and abilities, give me a greater opportunity on being selected into my career/field of choice.
All in all, by doing this, I will use my degree to make a quantifiable profit in my life. Although monetary gain does not suggest living a rich and fulfilling life, I do however want to use my degree to ensure economic stability for family and me. By becoming an physical therapist ,I will work with other therapist (both public and private) and open up my own office to educate persons on how keeping a healthy body can help in prolonging life and gain financial stability to be able to live a comfortable life
