Personal Statement
My name is Sofia Elgaily Lopez, I’m a 17-year-old student from Marbell, Malaga, Spain.
From September 2022, I have represented Malaga FC in the Spanish division, playing as a principal striker. Moreover, I have been selected for the last two consecutive years to represent the region of Malaga in regional-level tournaments. For the last two years in a row, I have been the recipient of the Golden Boot Award in the International Mediterranean Cup, an annual competition played in Italy (MedCup).
From the age of four, I received regular training in swimming, tennis and athletics, and in the latter, I held a regional record in 100m running. At the age of seven, I was fortunate enough to be scouted and trained by Coach Chris Williams, the former Manchester City and Arsenal Academy coach, who informed my parents of my “natural gift”. From then on, I have followed a football-centric path, finding it to be my inherent calling. Henceforth I commenced training with boys until I found a girl’s football club at the appropriate level. Following this I have gone on to achieve and be on the receiving end of numerous awards and records, for instance, averaging a 1.6 goal to game ratio over the last two seasons respectively.
Achievements in football have not hindered my academic record, as it has been clear to me from the beginning that both physical and mental work are complementary, rather than substitutes. I have maintained a consistently high academic performance, which has enabled me to represent the school in academic competitions, such as ISMTF (International Schools Mathematics Teachers Foundation) competition in which I received a gold medal.
My strengths include being a versatile and endurant athlete, with a tenacious attitude. My shining attributes are my pace on the field and being a quick-decision maker during play, in addition to being a fast and avid learner. Despite my driven and determined nature, I take pride in being compassionate to all.
Thank you for your time and I appreciate you watching my highlights.
Sincerely,
Sofía Elgaily
