Personal Statement
My name is Emily Humphrey and I am a 15 year old at Wellington Phoenix Academy. I have been playing soccer since I was five and have wanted to go as far as possible with the sport ever since. In April 2021 when I was 14, I was invited to an U17 Women's National Team camp, and was invited to numerous trials for the team following, leading up to the U17 Women's World Cup in India. In late 2022, I was part of the Wellington U18 Women's Team, playing in the Youth National League. At the end of the season, I was named tied best player in the team.
This coming season, I am in the U17 Phoenix Women's team, and we will be playing in the top U15 boy's league in Wellington, the U15 Talent Development Programme (TDP) league. In November 2022, I transitioned out of Ole Football Academy in Wellington, where I had been for the previous six years, to go to the Phoenix Academy. In the 2022 season I played in the U15 Ole mixed team in the U15 TDP boy's league. When I moved to Phoenix at the end of the season, I trained and played friendly games across both the U16 Women's team and the Women's Development Team, who are the reserves for the professional Phoenix Women's team.
I go to Queen Margaret College, and am this year going into year 12 (so am a sophomore). This year I will be starting the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma. In 2021, I was Junior House Leader for my school house, as well as being on the school Wellbeing Team. In 2022, I have been class leader and in the Wellbeing Team, as well as being part of the Make-A-Wish team, which partners with the charity Make-A-Wish to help terminally ill children's dreams come true. Academically, I achieved 99 Excellence credits and 36 Merit credits in 2022 (out of Not-Achieved, Achieved, Merit and Excellence for each assessment), and did not receive any Not-Achieved or Achieved grades. I have gained the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award and am not far off completing Silver.
I have lived in New Zealand all my life, however my grandfather is American and grew up in New York, and my dad grew up in New Jersey until moving to New Zealand at age 13. He then returned to the USA to complete his masters in Business at University of California - Irvine. We have lots of family in the States and have been to visit several times.
I am hoping to find a college with an exciting atmosphere that can help me achieve my academic and athletic goals, and that I will enjoy and give back to.
