Personal Statement
I have been playing soccer since I was 6 years old. I have represented my high school (Waimea College), Tasman United in the South Island Mainland Premier League, and the Tasman Regional Team for all age groups (12-19 years). The last four years I have competed for Waimea College Soccer in the National Secondary Schools Premier Tournament which takes the top 32 school teams in New Zealand. I played in Wairarapa United, a club team, in the Wellington Women's League, coached by Paul Ifil. Through the recent months I have been playing as part of Central Football Federation (I have been in this team for 2 years prior to this) in the NZ National Womens League (highest performance league for women in NZ), playing all level NZ representatives. The team is very young compared to all other regions with little or no chance to train as a full team due to our large conference, however it has challenged me mentally and technically, whilst growing leadership skills, resilience and a better understanding of the game and different positions through playing against the best women in New Zealand.
I am about to finish a year at University of Monash in Melbourne, studying a Bachelor of Science. However, I am looking for a more professional environment that supports athletes comprehensively and I think the US college system is the best way of doing that.
My prefered position is a central mid field, I am competent at centre back, and a more advanced/defensive midfield position. I am very determined and committed to hard work with a goal to grow into a stronger, faster and smart player. I was awarded Most Improved Player for the 2017 and 2018 season. After two inter-regional tournaments, opposition coaches awarded me most valuable player within my team.
As well as playing I have coached a junior girls team for the last two years, I coach as part of the Paul Ifil Footballl Academy (PIFA), and coach in schools throughout the year.
In the summer I play and coach beach/indoor volleyball.
I would love to further my career and skills as part of a high quality program in academics and athletics. Every year I am improving more and more and am unlocking my potential as a football player. Being academic and athletic has taught me to be very organised and proactive within both aspects of my life and each are both as important.
Taking opportunities and pushing myself is something I enjoy. I also back myself knowing I work hard as a student at university and as a soccer athlete. Being a cheerful and social person I find working in a team very easy, and can relate to many people. I am convinced I can be an asset to your team, and will always work my hardest to better myself as a player and a student.
