Personal Statement

My name is Kelsey Wakefield. I am seventeen years old, five feet four inches, and weigh 108 pounds. I have been playing soccer since the first grade, and I have been on a premier team since the fifth grade. I have also competed in track and Cross Country. Since High School though I am no longer able to run track because of the conflict with my high school soccer season. I do run Cross Country in the fall along with playing on premier club teams. My primary premier team is KC Fusion and we have been competing in Division 1 in the Kansas City Area Heartland Soccer League. I am a starter for my premier team and play left mid. During my high school season I play for Mill Valley High School in Shawnee, KS and my main position is center mid and occasionally I get to play left mid-field which I enjoy, but I will play any position that a coach will ask me to. I have started for my varsity team since my freshmen year.  A few accomplishments I had with my 2010 high school team was to receive first team honors as forward for the Kaw Valley League and the team as a whole were the Kaw Valley Champions. This year I received a 2nd team honor as a mid-fielder to the Kaw Valley League and Honorable mention to State. My High School Soccer team was the Kaw Valley League Champions the past two years. Accomplishments for my club team are: we have won 7 Tournaments and have received runner up in 3 tournaments. I have competed as a guest player in 6 additional tournaments in which the team(s) I played for had either received first place or runner up in the tournament.  What can I offer to your team?  I consider myself to be a team player and work hard at making passes to other teammates, but at the same time I know when I can make a play on my own. Last year in high school I finished with 10 goals and 9 assists by the end of the season. This year I had 10 goals and 13 assists.  I love the game of soccer and enjoy being a part of a team effort and I am always respectful to my teammates and coaches.  I would prefer to attend school and play soccer somewhere close to home, perhaps an in state institution or at a neighboring Missouri school. The size of the school that I am interested in would be either a medium size or smaller campus. For my Major I haven’t quite narrowed it down at this time, but I am interested in perhaps a field in graphic design or interior design.  My goals as an athlete are to start playing right away as a freshmen because I feel like that would help me in the long run as being a part of the team and get the feel of how the team plays and how the coaches train.
