I began playing soccer at 5 years old and played recreational at Fern Creek Optimist for 4-5 years. These early years are what started my passion for soccer – loving the competitiveness of the game, developing leadership and social skills, being part of a team, and in a sport that I continually learn and grow.
After 5 years in rec ball, I wanted to further develop my soccer skills and began playing at the competitive level with the Derby City Rossoneri club team. Since that beginning, I have played for various clubs which gave me a broader knowledge and exposure to different coaching and training methods and am currently playing for Derby City Rovers.
During my soccer experience, I have played multiple positions including sweeper, wing, attacking midfield and forward; my favorite position is forward because it gives me opportunity to engage in all soccer aspects – passing, driving the ball and shots on goal. I have also typically played up at least one level and am used to playing with and against others who may be older and bigger than me. This helped me to build stamina and skill, and learning how to finesse my way around others. I would describe my playing style as aggressive and not afraid to go up against anyone. I talk with my teammates on the field to call for the ball to myself or to others if it means better passing and scoring opportunities.
I also played during all three years at Ramsey Middle School and currently play at Fern Creek High School. During the 2017-18 high school season, I was the leading scorer and in the top two for assists. I will graduate from Fern Creek in 2020 and plan to pursue a career in cardiovascular medicine. I am taking advanced level and AP courses, with a focus on the sciences to better prepare for college level courses and what I want to do in my career. I have maintained at least a GPA of at least 3.6 since my freshman year.
I am also on the Student Council and have helped start a lacrosse team at school as well. I currently volunteer at Baptist Hospital, helping patients and nurses with whatever they need and have worked in various departments for more knowledge on different health issues.
