My name is Hannah May. I am a 5'8" GK from south Louisiana. I have played soccer since I was in the 2nd grade. I immediately fell in love with the sport. My biggest belief is that you have to work for what you want and that everything happens for a reason, whether it is good or bad.
My youth coach had always stressed that when it came to trying out for other teams, to do it. Experience other clubs, see what it is like. Just because you try out doesn't mean you have to be on that team. When the time came to play 11v11, I tried out for two clubs - my home club and the neighboring rival club. I was devasted when I didn't make the team for my home club and had to go play for the rival team. Not only play for the rival team but play for their D2 team.
However, I knew I had to make the best out of this situation and prove to my old club that they had made a mistake. I went to team camp and stepped up as a leader, oftentimes being asked to guest play for the D1 team. My new coach had asked multiple times why I hadn't made the higher team.
The following year, I made the D1 team for the club and was also recognized as a Top 11 player for the state, taking my team to the state championship. This led our team to Regionals as a qualifying team.
Fast forward to high school soccer. In my freshman year, I had to fill big shoes as the team had lost their starting senior GK. Throughout that season, I had to overcome many obstacles, both mental and physical. At the end of the season, I was recognized as a top player for the district and region, making First Team for both.
My sophomore year started out with the uncertainty of COVID and losing 12 seniors from the previous season. I worked harder and held myself to a higher standard to accomplish more. I was again recognized as a First Team player for both district and region, but added Defensive MVP Player for both to my ever-growing list of accomplishments.
I am currently playing for LA TDP Elite, the first GA team in Louisiana. I also guest play for BRSC 05 Girls Black. Please reach out to me as I am open to attending any ID camps!
