Soccer has been a huge part of my life since I was a little kid, and goalkeeper has been a position that I have loved since kindergarten. I knew I wanted soccer to be a part of my future plans once I joined club. I was in fifth grade when I joined GPS MA West and looking back on it now, that was one of the best decisions I have made. Playing club has helped me grow as a person and a player, surrounding myself with other people who love the game like me and push me to work hard and be a better player. I recently was named captain of my club team for this upcoming spring season, I am very proud of this as this is only my second season with my team.
So far in my career, I’ve gone from winning multiple players of the week and MVP for club to being named the starting varsity goalkeeper as an 8th grader, achieving 2nd team all-league as a freshman, 1st team all-league as a junior, being voted team captain for the third year in a row as a senior, and most recently being named a Central Massachusetts All-Star. These achievements are great and show how I have grown individually, but my favorite accomplishment has to be helping my high school team get the second seed and make it to the quarter-finals in districts.
To me, being a goalkeeper takes a certain kind of person, someone who can perform under pressure and take on a leadership role by gaining the respect of my teammates. I enjoy being a leader, I feel I am very coachable, and I am determined and love working hard. I not only work hard on the field, but I work hard in the classroom. My dream and what I am working towards is attending an academically challenging college, that also challenges me as a soccer player. I love how when you join a team it’s like you’re joining a family and that’s the kind of atmosphere I want to be surrounded by. I’m extremely excited about the opportunities that college will offer as I hope to pursue a career in forensics. I cannot, however, picture my college experience without soccer in it.
