My name is Taylor Hughes. I currently play for Pontotoc High School, a small town outside Tupelo, Ms. I have played soccer since I was 5 and want to continue to play in college. My love for soccer exploded at around 10 years old when I made a D2 soccer team in Tupelo, Ms. The following year I started playing for Tupelo's club soccer team, Tupelo Futbal Club '01 Girls. I was a starting member of this team for 3 years. As an eighth grader, I made the Tupelo High School Varsity Team (6A). During my freshman year on varsity I suffered a concussion and was out the entire season. Having something so important taken away from me just strengthened my drive and determination to get better and come back even stronger. In the summer of 2016 my family moved to Pontotoc, a small town about 15 minutes away from Tupelo. I earned a starting position on the Pontotoc High School Varsity Team (4A). My club teams are BUSA RPL 01 Girls and MS Flood 01 Girls. I also am a permanent guest player for the BRILLA LEGEND 99 Girls.
What makes me different? I have been told that whenever I walk onto the field I come with a controlling influence on the game. Others have complemented me because they say I am tactical, technical, physical, and cerebral all at the same time. For me though, I like to think of myself as trying to be better every time I play. My starting position is center back and at 6'2" I can see the entire field and where the movement is. My size and height, I believe, makes me one of the top defenders in my 2019 class!
My hope is to attend and play soccer for a competitive college or university, that will help me grow academically as well as athletically. I believe that my experience, qualifications, and training demonstrate my abilities to succeed as a student athlete. I welcome all opportunities to explore college programs that will support my goals.
