My name is Sophia Henry, and I am a member of the graduating class of 2023 at Deptford Township High School in Deptford, NJ. I am a very driven individual when it comes to my academic studies and athletics. I put forth tremendous effort, both in school and on the soccer field. My ultimate academic goal is to earn my DPT, Doctor of Physical Therapy, which has been an interest of mine for many years. I am very interested in continuing my soccer career while attending college. Currently, I play for an Elite Soccer Development Program, a club team in my town, and I am the starting varsity striker for my high school soccer team. Playing on all three teams for quite some time has enabled us to grow together as a team, and ultimately progress to the competitive level we are now. I believe it is important to surround yourself with other people who will encourage you to be the best version of yourself, and in turn, a better student and player every day.
I have dreamed of playing college level soccer for as long as I can remember. While playing soccer over the past 13 years, I’ve always worked hard towards that goal. I have played on my club team for the past 9 years, the Elite Soccer Development Program team for 8 years, and proud to have been chosen as a captain on both teams. On my high school team, I’ve been given the opportunity to start as a varsity player since freshman year. I’ve earned the distinct honor of been named First Team All-Liberty Division in the Tri-County Conference for forwards. Being an integral part of these teams has allowed me to use my strong leadership skills, while also teaching me that I need to create meaningful individual goals on top of our team goals. My individual goals are set around becoming a better player and person every day. I pride myself on being a versatile player, who can play anywhere on the front line of the field. While I work hard on myself, I also try to push others to do their best as well. As a leader, I enjoy seeing my teammates succeed, and I love being a part of their success.
Respecting any guidance from my coaches and teachers is very important to me. When a coach offers constructive criticism, it is important to take this advice to heart, so I can grow as an individual and help our team grow as a whole. In addition to athletics, my academics are a top priority. I finish every school year with mostly A’s, while taking advanced and honors classes, and being a part of the National Honor Society. The focus I have placed on academics and athletics continue to help me work towards accomplishing all my goals.
My top priority is to find a college with a soccer team that allows me to work towards my full potential as a student and athlete, while continuing to grow as an individual. I look forward to learning more about your academic programs, athletic programs and school environment, in hopes that we would be a good fit.
