Personal Statement

Hello my name is Emily Aguilar and I am from Albuquerque, New Mexico. I have played soccer since I was 4 years old and since then my passion for the sport has become a permanent part of my life. Every time I get on the field my passion for soccer becomes stronger. Soccer is the one thing I look forward to everyday, it is my escape from what's happening in life. Playing soccer makes me energized and happy, especially when I am having a bad day. I look forward to soccer training every day. My teammates and coaches have become major influences in my life.  The relationships that I have built with people because of soccer is unforgettable and I have made many long-lasting friendships.

However, now it has been challenging for me because of the pandemic we have been going through. I haven't played a competitive soccer game since February of 2020. That was the last game I played this year and that game was when I badly sprained my ankle and was out for 2 months. Once I was ready to get back to playing, the pandemic hit and everyone was encouraged to stay home. All tournaments, games, and practices were cancelled. During the summer my brother was diagnosed with COVID and we had to truly quarantine. Thank God he is ok and suffered mild symptoms. Since the pandemic started, I have felt unmotivated to do anything since there was no practice and we couldn't really go anywhere. The restrictions were really hard for me because I didn’t have the opportunity to do what I love. I have come to realize how strong minded and passionate I am about the game. Now we are back to practicing and playing small games. I truly realized how much I love this sport. Now, I wake up every day waiting to go to practice just to play my absolute best because you really never know when your last game is going to be.

Ever since I was a little girl, I've always wanted to be a professional soccer player and play soccer in Hawaii. Now that I am older, I have come to realize I need more options. I want to play college soccer and get my college degree.  Besides playing soccer I love writing, painting, making crafty projects, and drawing. I consider myself to be a creative person. This leads me to my future career goals. I would love to be in advertisement and create logos for a company or create commercials. I also love to travel, so a sports broadcaster is my dream job because I have always loved watching sports. I grew up with my brother playing basketball and he currently plays college basketball. My grandfather is a retired football and basketball coach. I have always been around sports and feel sports brings friends and families together.

Both my parents have college degrees and have always instilled the importance of education. Soccer will definitely help me obtain my college degree. I want the best of both worlds, soccer and college!
