Personal Statement

5/23/2021

Through determination and a progressive attitude comes success.   Once you grab ahold of success, you better NOT let go.  Hold on tight as everyone that you were selected over will want to take your spot.   I was recently offered a position on one of the two first Girls Academy league teams in NM.  I have had to work many years, climbing the ranks but have finally made it where I want to be.  Good work ethics and determination will get you so far, but when you get there, you have to hold on and fight to keep it.

Family, School and Soccer are three of the most important things in my future.   Things will come and go but my family will always be here when I need them and even when I don't.  School will help educate me for my career choice.  Soccer will drive me to be a better person and hopefully an inspirational woman to younger generations.   I know that playing soccer in college is competitive, but so is the opportunity to get there.  No matter what though, when I step onto any field, I will also be having fun doing what it is that I love to do.  I will give everything that I have to the team, the college, the sport and to myself.

So what is America going to do?  As of right now, there is still no certainty.  People getting sick with COVID-19, others losing their jobs, good and bad protesting, do we as kids go back to school or not (our governor has recently also shut down all high school fall contact sports), and this is only a short list.  What is the right answer?  Honestly, I don't even know exactly what I think.  As a 15 year old, I try to focus on things that I can control.  There are specifically 3 things that I can control.   I continue to learn (language arts and algebra) as I feel that I was unable to be taught completely during the spring semester, work on soccer activities (skills, strength, conditioning), and driving. I am so excited about having my learners permit and want to drive as often as possible.  It is a scary thing to do but it is exciting.   After these things, I try to help my parents at home and then be a teenager who really can't do much with our current state restrictions.   I do hope one day soon we will be able to get back to normal or a new normal, whatever that may be.  Playing soccer is not only a fun and exciting sport to play, but it is also something that few kids get to play in college. I hope that one day I will be able to not only be a college soccer player, but be a player that plays for a national title.

During this time of uncertainty for our nation, I have had time to reflect on my career.  Reflecting back, I have tried to think about what is it about me that would make  me a valuable player to collegiate programs.   Some of us are fast, some have a good shot, others are very good leaders, but we all have ups and downs periodically to some level.  One thing that I am proud of, is that no matter what day or time it is, when I get on the field, to practice, or have the time to handle a ball, one thing that I know I will always bring is "consistency".    I will always give everything that I have in me to provide for my team, myself, and my coaches.  In soccer, teams/players will always have ups and downs, often as a result mental or physical fatigue.  With no soccer in our near future, even now,  I am working at least 5 out of 7 days weekly on my ball skills, strength and conditioning.  Tough times need tough and consistent people.

Over the last 4 years, I have played for many teams that I was a part of (rest assured there are good reasons), as well as played for many other teams as a guest player.   Playing for multiple different teams can seem bad, but I feel that it has helped me both individually and as a team player, on and off the field.  I have become accustomed to performing with different players, as well as with different classmates through the years.  I feel that this has made me be able to adjust quickly to any environment that I may be in.   As I continue through my high school career, I know that I am going to have more challenges then those I have already been through and this will make me a much more rounded person, student, and player.

Currently in High School, I am taking a very time consuming Honors Geometry class.   This class definitely makes me work on my time management with soccer and the volunteering that I do through my church.  Not only is it time consuming but also stimulates me to think outside of the box on how to get something done.  I go to extra tutoring sessions when I have the opportunity to as well for this class.

Through college, I plan on studying biology or chemistry with an emphasis in medical sciences.  My eventual plan is to attend Veterinary or Medical school.   Playing sports and maintaining my high GPA even while taking honors classes has been difficult up to this point, but it will all be worth the effort when I accomplish my eventual goals of playing soccer in college and acquiring a medical degree.

I know that I am a very well rounded person.  I know that I will be a very well rounded student.  I know that if I am given the chance, I will be a very well rounded and important part of any soccer program that I may play for.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
