Hello. My name is Yasmin Rustam. I am a 17-year-old female from Ontario, Canada. I am a multi-sport athlete whose main sport is soccer. Being a multi-sport athlete has taught me crucial skills both on-and-off the pitch. I played many sports growing up but it quickly became evident that soccer was the sport, I was not only most passionate about, but also was most skilled at. I have been playing soccer since I was 3 years old, and have consistently played with an older age group. My strengths as an athlete include the ability to play multiple positions, speed on and off the ball, and quick decision-making. I currently maintain an average in the 90%'s, with aspirations of being on the Canadian Women’s National Soccer Team and studying at a top school in the USA. Maintaining a high GPA is crucial to me as it will benefit me in opening a gateway to a future filled with success. I had been accepted to a regional sports high school while maintaining honour roll, and consistently being top of my class. I have participated in many soccer tournaments and camps such as the USA Cup, the University of North Carolina Camp (2018), and the Ontario Cup. Soccer has contributed to my growth as a person on and off the field, and playing at a high level for the past 7 years has taught me many aspects that define my character. Soccer has shown me the true meaning of commitment, sportsmanship, and teamwork. An important lesson that soccer has taught me is that you can not entirely focus on the physical aspect of the sport. You need to focus on the mental aspect as well. Being a successful student-athlete requires balance; a balance in school, a balance in health, and a balance in life. Growing up in the foster care system has helped me practice these skills. While growing up in the system, it included having to provide for myself in most ways. I continue to fight for what I believe in and never give up on my dreams. My experiences have made me resilient. I am a survivor. Success equals hard work, determination, and sacrifice. All things I am doing and will continue to do. Thank you for your consideration, and if I were to join your team, I promise I will not disappoint and I will not only impress with my athletic and academic skills, but I will also impress by being a kind, open-minded, and understanding person.
