Personal Statement

All student athletes must learn the importance of focus and dedication to their commitments both in the classroom and on the pitch. However, sport requires much more than attending practices and games. Dedication to your sport means that you reflect on your performance, training and mentality. It means that you bring nothing but your all to each session, game, tournament and even team bonding, not just for yourself but for your whole team.

As a Grassroots Coach and Ontario Soccer Match Official, I have gained a new understanding of the game of soccer. I have experienced the depth of the role our coaches play each time they try to formulate which players work best together, or how the opposing team plays. By being a Match Official I have also gained further respect for my referees but also learned to be decisive and confident in several roles on and off of a pitch.

Academics have always come first for myself, as my goal is to study Biochemistry in my undergraduate years, to become a Doctor or researcher. I have an undying passion to learn especially in the sciences.

My eagerness to learn allows me to be very coachable and dedicated to improving any part of my game. I have fast feet and can adapt to new drills and plays very well. I bring great team spirit and leadership to help my teammates at any level.

There is no doubt in my mind that I would be a perfect fit for your team, and representative  of your school.

  • To whom it may concern, I would like to recommend Emma Bowman for your soccer program. My name is Ollie Malone, I was the head coach of the 03 girls Pickering Football Club CSL soccer team for the 2019 season. Midway through the season Emma was recommended for my team and unfortunately due to league restrictions she was only allowed to play for 6 league games. I say unfortunately because Emma is an excellent soccer player who ended up finishing as our top scorer, having played 10 games less than everyone else. Emma is a very hardworking forward who has good speed, good touch, and a great eye for goal. Playing with and against girls who were older than her did not intimidate Emma from giving her all on the field. She has the versatility to excel in any of the forward positions as her ability to read the game is one of her greatest strengths. Emma is a player who understands that there is more to soccer than just winning. As a natural leader, her example on and off the field demonstrated that hard work, teamwork, and a positive attitude are just as important as the score at the end of the game. Emmas commitment to the team was evident. She consistently worked hard at practices to improve individually and as a team player. Her willingness to take constructive criticism and apply it to her game is the reason that she was one my most coachable players. Emma is a great team player who would be a great representative for any school. She is very coachable, hardworking, respectful, and self-motivated; these are the skills that I believe are necessary to become a successful player at the next level. It is without reservation that I recommend that you take a serious look at Emma Bowman for your program. If you have any questions you can email me at [email protected] or call me at 416-662-4539. I would be happy to answer any questions. Yours in Sport, Ollie Malone Pickering Football Club Coach

  • To Whom It May Concern, It is my privilege to write this letter of recommendation for Emma Bowman. I have had the opportunity and pleasure to work with Emma over the last three years at the Pickering FC Soccer Club. Emma has a natural athleticism which allows her to excel in any sport she takes part in. Combining this with her willingness to learn and improve made her one of the standout players on the team. Emma’s love of the game and desire to become a better player has seen her used in all positions throughout the team, displaying a great attitude and work rate, keys to being a top player. As Emma progressed she moved up to the role of a striker and became the team’s top scorer. She displayed what the coaches taught in game situations, recognizing when to make the right runs to create goal scoring opportunities or make herself available to receive and hold the ball. In the past year Emma had the opportunity to play up a year and still stood out as one of the best players on the field. Her never quit attitude shows up in the way she performs at every moment in a game regardless of the score or time of the contest. Emma has a great demeanor making her a good teammate, and someone easy to work with and coach. Emma has a very bright future ahead of herself. Best, George Whiteside Girls Soccer Coach Pickering FC

  • To Whom It May Concern: Throughout my coaching career that included developing competitive athletes (boys and girls) in soccer, hockey and baseball, my focus and goal was to assemble a team of players that exemplified a positive attitude that was brought to the rink, pitch or diamond each and every day. In addition, I valued athletes that were able to effectively listen and learn, were strong leaders and were always willing to work harder than their opponent. This was the environment that was put in place, above winning at all costs, while ensuring that I balanced the importance of education and striving for academic excellence - school always came first! I was thrilled when Emma joined my team during her U12 soccer season in Pickering. She made my responsibilities as the team's Head Coach really easy. Emma was under my instruction for 3 seasons where she always arrived to practice sessions and games on time, demonstrated excellent listening skills, and was always willing to work on improving her individual skills without sacrificing team development. During our time together, I watched Emma gradually improve her skills and knowledge of the game and blossom into one of the team's most valuable players. Emma was a joy to coach!
