Personal Statement

I am Claire Dubinsky, a 2025 graduate, hoping to play soccer post-secondary.  I am a strong center defense dominant with my right foot but also highly effective with my left foot as well.  I am a quick thinker and use my physical strength and speed as an advantage during games.  I have committed years to this sport and always ask for feedback to continually improve.  As a teammate, I strive to be an inclusive, positive and a calm leader that my team can rely on.  I’ve participated in many sports over the years including skating, hockey, softball, and dancing.  The three athletics I have  participated in at a competitive level are gymnastics, curling and soccer.  I was a Level 7 gymnast and after leaving the competitive program, I have continued as a coach. As a curler, I have competed at a national level and I also coach youth recreational curling.  Ultimately my passion has been soccer having played rep soccer since I was 8 years old and having also coached soccer. I have learned many life skills from playing multiple competitive sports and my family has ingrained the importance of commitment, hard work and being a good teammate.

While isolated in Thunder Bay, our team continues to travel extensively and have successes at tournaments in Canada and the USA recently winning the Winnipeg League division championship in 2023.  Our goal for the upcoming season is to win back-to-back championships in the Winnipeg League as well as win our provincial title.  I am looking forward to the opportunity to demonstrate my skills with this team at tournaments and post-secondary showcases.

Along with athletics, academics is also very important to me. I am an honour roll student always attaining a 4.0 GPA.  I also participate in various school activities such as Natural Helpers, Safe Schools, Vice President of Student Council, and various school sports.  My goal is to continue my post secondary education in the areas of healthcare or education while playing varsity soccer.

I know that my soccer skills, emphasis on academics, and my dedication to the things I commit to, illustrate my strengths as a well-rounded athlete and teammate.  I am a fierce competitor committed to being the best I can at every sport I have taken on. I am eager to find that school where I can achieve my athletic and academic goals.
