My name is Maja Cenanovic and I am a winger/striker with strong technical skills and creative abilities, with a 4.0 GPA. The idea of playing varsity soccer has always been a dream of mine and my focus is to find a school where I can thrive, both athletically and academically.
Although I am dominant on my right foot, a great aspect of my game is the fact that I am able to use both feet, and be highly effective with either. I prefer playing on the left wing, however I am flexible, as I play both sides for my club team. I stand out on the pitch as a winger because of my creativity with the ball. I am able to stretch the pitch wide, where I then use my technical ability to make quick moves and decisions. I am also comfortable enough to score from 10 yards out, and have enough strength and confidence in my shot to hit the back of the net from 25+ yards out on both feet.
I play for a very successful soccer team, and each and every one of us is incredibly dedicated to the sport. We are 2023 Canadian National Finalists, representing Ontario as the Provincial Champions. We are also the reigning Indoor Ontario Cup Champions for two years running.
Individually, I have participated in several First Touch Football (FTF) combines, winning two Player-of-the-Match awards. I was named to the 2023 All-Star Team, and invited to participate in the Top 60 combine, where I was one of the youngest attendees. In addition to this, I was honoured to be ranked #15 in Canada for 2026 graduates.
Athletics are a significant part of what defines my family. Both of my parents were competitive athletes: my mother competed internationally in ice dancing and was the Captain of the varsity team at Western University, while my father was a Canadian Junior National Champion and qualified for Olympic Trials in swimming. Both of my aunts were also varsity swimmers, one at Harvard University who graduated cum laude, and the other, on a full ride scholarship and Captain of Florida State University. My uncle attended the Commonwealth Games for rowing. My brothers both play high-level competitive hockey. In 2022, my older brother was drafted to the Kitchener Rangers in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and is currently playing in the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) for the Mississauga Chargers, while my younger brother plays AAA for the Mississauga Reps.
While athletics has clearly been ingrained in my life, I was raised in a household where education is paramount. I am an honors student with a 4.0 GPA, and received the highest grade in both English and Physical Education Grade 9 subjects. I am also very involved in my school community. In my grade 9 year (2022/23), I was a member of the Franklin Athletics Association (FAA) Wellness Committee, where I was responsible for communication and advertising. Currently, in my grade 10 year (2023/24), I serve as one of three representatives for FAA Intramurals, with responsibility for planning and scheduling and running the events, using social media marketing, and communications. In addition, I am a member of the DECA/Business Club in Principles of Finance, which was a great experience that made me more interested in the world of business.
I also have over 20 volunteer hours coaching young female soccer athletes in my neighbourhood, which I absolutely love.
In summary, I have dedicated thousands of hours to training and being the best I can be at my sport. My passion is fierce, and it is what drives me. I am dedicated to excelling on the pitch, and in the classroom, and am excited to find a school where I can achieve both my athletic and academic goals.
