Hi, I am Maria Wendekier, and I am currently a junior at Cambria Heights Senior High School, located in Patton, PA. I have been playing soccer for 11 years, and I have always enjoyed playing the sport and connecting with my teammates.
My main position is goalie, where I have been a starter for three years on our girls varsity team. This past season I was named one of the captains. Before I started playing in goal in middle school, I was mainly a center attacking midfielder. I currently start in goal on varsity, however I am a very versatile player and I am open to playing wherever I am needed. When I am not in goal, I still exceed greatly in midfield. My sophomore year on varsity, my team and I qualified for the district playoffs. We ended up losing in the first round to a tough team who we came close to beating in the regular season. Even though we lost, getting to experience that district game, bettered me as a person and as an athlete. This past season (2023) we qualified for districts again and made it to the semifinal round, and our districts campaign ended there.
I think that playing soccer has bettered my leadership skills, especially now that I am a captain. It has also helped me learn how to communicate with different people with varying personalities. Both of these skills are very important for my future and my everyday life.
I understand that I am late to the recruiting process so I am open to any options that I have currently including D1, D2, and D3 levels.
