My name is Sophia Lear and I am a Senior at Northern Lehigh High School. I have played sports ever since I was a little kid and always enjoyed pushing myself with each athletic event. My older sister's passion for sports inspired me to take part in gymnastics, softball, track, basketball, and soccer. Although I have competed in many sports, soccer has always stood out for me as it is my safe space. Soccer has taught me many things such as learning how to push myself mentally and physically, how to trust and make bonds with amazing teammates, to become mentally tougher, to become more confident, and just how moving and uplifting my passion is for soccer. I feel the most confident and at my best when I am able to lead my teammates and work towards the same goals together. Every minute spent on the field I focus on simply becoming better than I was yesterday, not only for my own soccer-related goals but for the sake of my team as we depend on one another. I am self-motivated and dedicated to improving my skills, always trying to put in any time possible to practice. I am hoping that not only my work on and off the field but my hard work in school will help with a scholarship or an acceptance into a hard-working school. I try my best to be active in school by being a part of the Student Council, certain clubs, and NHS within my next few high school years. Playing high school varsity soccer and for Sting PA's club team have also taught me many valuable skills to have within soccer. When I am overwhelmed or losing motivation at times, my passion for soccer always gets me back on track once I put my heart into it.
It is my collegiate goal to be a student-athlete for any division soccer team. I believe my dedication towards becoming a better athlete and student will get me there. I strive to maintain my high GPA by taking part in many honors and AP classes as academics are just as important to me as athletics. It is also my goal to learn leadership skills and build my confidence so therefore I take part in Student Council to also do my part within my school. I believe I would be a great asset to any team because I am always willing and open to work hard and push myself even harder. I know that there are so many things I still need to learn on and off the field and I am very open to taking in coaches' or teammates' advice to become an overall better player. I am a passionate and empathetic player who cares about the values of teamwork and leading their team. I play with an open mind so whenever I make mistakes in a game or at practice, I always use that as a chance to come back even stronger. I can contribute many things to a team besides a positive mentality and a good work ethic as well. On the field, my speed helps me get back in time, and my ability to strongly hold my position as a defender also helps possible goals. I possess dribbling abilities as well that help get the ball back into an offender's possession. I feel as if my biggest contribution is being a defender my team can rely on, one that not only gets back in time to get the ball under control and back in our possession but one that fights throughout the whole game to lead their team to success. I put a lot of heart into this game and try my best to become a better player for my team, I am very passionate about my goals and strive to be a player my teammates can depend on. Communication is key to me so I try to push my teammates up to hold a better mindset throughout the game. I believe that my motivation to constantly keep up a good work ethic, the value I have of being a dependable player, and the fight I have to push myself each time I step on the field all set me apart from other players. I strive to be the best possible version of myself and feel that my athletic abilities and heart would be a great asset to any team. I have so much I desire to learn from such a strong-willed team.
