My name is Ava Hooten and I play soccer on the Pocono Mountain East High School varsity team as a forward. My parents signed me up to play soccer when I was four years old and I have loved it ever since. Soccer has given me a passion, something to turn to when I have to take my mind off of something, and something to keep me involved and active. I intend to play soccer for as long as I possibly can because I hate to imagine my life without it. Soccer has taught me competitiveness, collaboration, perseverance, and even independence.
Throughout my years of playing soccer, my identical twin sister has been on the field with me every game. In my freshman year, however, I made the junior varsity team while my sister made the varsity team. This forced me to become independent and to grow on my own. I pushed through that year eventually moving up to double roster and becoming the leading scorer on junior varsity. The next year I came back to be a starting player and leading scorer on varsity. In the end, I am grateful to have been faced with this obstacle because it increased my passion for the game and gave me the motivation to keep improving my skills both on and off the field.
I put the same effort into schoolwork that I do in my soccer games. My education is of great value to me, as I have devoted many long nights to my studies. I have earned many academic achievements such as National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Distinguished Honors Awards, and many more. I am looking for a school that values both athletics and academics greatly and has a good balance between the two. I am also looking for a school with great biology and environmental science programs, as that is what I would like to pursue as a career.
