My name is Rosalina Caliri and I am a senior at East Greenwich High School in Rhode Island. My love of soccer started at just five years old. I have been playing competitive soccer since sixth grade as a goalkeeper.
My goals for the future start with positioning myself at an excellent learning institution; one that not only offers renowned courses in the medical field but also an equally amazing soccer program for women. As a student, I have worked diligently to achieve a 3.9 GPA, taking rigorous courses that have ultimately pushed me academically. These courses also contributed to the growth of my GPA and have most importantly afforded me the chance to have top choices of the best schools in the country. Since the beginning, I have always been determined to be the best I can be. I tend to thrive under pressure, and I believe I perform my best when I’m faced with challenge and competition – it motivates me to work even harder.
I love the camaraderie and sense of family that I feel with my soccer team. It’s a group of like-minded women, all working together to achieve a win. Each of us is contributing our strengths together, with every shot on net and every goalkeeper save. Every drop of sweat, every pain, every triumph and every fail together – with teamwork.
As a Goalkeeper, I am the eyes and commander of our defensive line and I lead my team with verbal and physical communications. I take Goalkeeping very seriously and although it is a unique position, which requires special training, I never see myself as any more important than any of my teammates.
As I grow and thrive in my own life, I continue to grow in my position as Goalkeeper. Communication is crucial to every person and relationship, and my role on my team has absolutely improved my confidence in communication. I am expected to be a solid leader and so far, I’ve embraced it and feel “home”. As school years end and training pauses, I may feel temporarily sad to not be with my team, but I also know my soccer “family” will continue to expand, and I cannot wait.
