Hard to believe that with our wind and snow, there is soccer in Wyoming; but yes, that is the case! It takes a certain amount of mental and physical toughness to go out and compete in the harsh weather here. My name is Macey Engle and I am a junior at Douglas High School. I play attacking midfielder and forward for the Douglas Bearcats. What started out as a way to burn off extra energy at age 3 has turned into one of my main passions 13 years later. Over the years, my skill and love for the sport have evolved to a desire to take my passion to the next level. In addition to being a 3 sport athlete, I am also academically motivated with a 4.0 GPA. I have found that competing in other sports in high school including volleyball, golf and basketball, has helped me learn to quickly adapt to different situations, focus on team play, and has increased my athleticism and appreciation for each sport. Notably, our basketball team has won the state championship SIX YEARS in a row!
Throughout my career my soccer skill set has grown a tremendous amount as I am always seeking ways to improve. I have played with my hometown Douglas Thunder team (club team) for 6 years as well as guest playing for other teams in larger cities/towns. Some of the things that draw me to soccer are the camaraderie, competition, and a strong desire to achieve greatness on the field. I am dedicated, coachable, a hard worker, organized, methodical, a fierce competitor and supportive of my teammates.
During my freshman season, I ended the year with a total of 4 goals and 5 assists. As a freshman I started varsity every game and was a leader on and off the field. At the conclusion of the season, I was awarded with Honorable Mention All-Conference 3A East Division.
My sophomore year is off to a good start as I have a total of 10 goals and 8 assists under my belt, as well as a starter for all the varsity games. 8 assists is the record at the high school. I think being a team player is very important, and, while it is fun to score goals, I also get great joy from assisting my teammates when they score.
As my Junior year has conclude, I ended the season with 13 assists and 10 goals. I broke the school record for assists in a career (25) as well as assists in a game(4). Our team made history by being first in our conference to seed us first on the east side at state. We then won one and lost two and placed 4th.
In closing, I am a humble small town girl with a strong drive to succeed both on and off the field. From the pitch to the classroom, my resilience and hard working attitude will make me a valuable member of any team.
