Hi, I am Grace Arnott. My goal in swimming is to compete at the collegiate level. I started swimming when I was 6 years old, but I started competitive swimming when I was 8. I used to be afraid of swimming in the pool. I tried a lot of different sports but when I was 6 my mom put me into the Calgary Patriots and I learnt to love the water. Swimming has helped me develop leadership skills, accountability and perseverance. Since then I have grown as a swimmer age 11 only making Provincials(B level meet) by the end of that season I was making Provincial Championship (A level meet). This year I qualified for the Western Canada Championships and My goal was to make nationals due to Covid I was unable to. I have learnt that I can compete at very high levels in Breaststroke, Fly and IM. Also I am a great addition to any relay team as I perform very well on them. When I was 13 I got a very serious concussion, I was able to train but I couldn’t do flip turns for backstroke. The hardest part of that was not being able to compete for 3-4 months. This was a stop on my road to getting my western and national times that year but I came back better than ever, it helped me improve my underwater and technique in strokes.
My goals for high school are to keep my GPA between 3.5-4.0 and stay on the honor roll. This will help me make my college decision as it makes more schools available to me. After High School I want to go to a college that doesn't just reflect my swimming but my academics as I want to get a degree in teaching. Having an opportunity to work as hard as I can, dedicate myself and grow as a person and swimmer. I look forward to contributing to a college academically and through swimming. I can’t wait to contribute to their success and see how they can push my limits to excel at swimming.
