My name is Mia Buller and I am a senior at Sierra Pacific High School in Hanford, California. Growing up, I loved to be in the water in the hot summers we have here in the valley. My parents signed me up for recreational swim when I was five years old, where my biggest goals were to obtain the purple and pink ribbons which not to my knowledge at the time, happened to be sixth and seventh place. The competitiveness and passion that comes with any sport didn't come until later on in my swimming career. I found myself wanting that first place blue ribbon like the top girls on my recreation team. I joined Hanford TNT, the local club team at the age of twelve and committed myself to becoming better. I learned that hard work pays off and that being mentally strong is just as, if not more important as being physically strong.
The sport of swimming has not just helped me learn things within the sport but also throughout every experience that I have. I have learned time management because of my busy schedule of practices, keeping my high GPA, coaching, and the responsibilities that I have at home. I have learned perseverance through the hard lessons of losing and the defeats of adding time. I have learned compassion and humbleness through being the slower and introverted girl that just wanted those pink and purple ribbons. But most importantly, it has given me countless opportunities and relationships that I will cherish forever. I hope to continue learning and swimming on the college level through the opportunities given to me.
