Swimming has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I've tried other sports such as soccer and softball but in the end, swimming stuck with me. I am aiming to swim at the Division II or III level in college because academics come first. I realize swimming at the Division I level is time consuming and requires a large amount of commitment. Commitment is one of my personal strengths however, I am also a person who sets realistic goals and with the major I'm pursuing, swimming at the Division II or III level makes the most sense.
A couple months ago my swim coach passed away. Although it was a traumatic and tragic experience, I will never forget what he taught me. I've learned how to push myself to give 100% of whatever I have, meaning not 100% of my best self, but 100% of what physical, emotional, and mental state I'm currently in. This valuable lesson mixed with my determination and commitment is the product of who I've become as a person. This belief reflects in multiple areas of my life such as academics, sports, and my character. Through this I've come to understand that giving 100% is an attitude. It's a choice. And this choice shapes me and inspires me to become a better person.
