My mom decided to put me, my twin brother and older brother into swim team during a summer to condition us. At that time I was playing Softball and my mom thought it would be good conditioning. I began swimming and my first swim meet I won by over a half a lap. I kept improving and winning. I looked at my mom one day and told her I don't want to play softball I want to swim. My mom swam from the age of 5-17 competitively, she said are you sure.
My mom took me to Rose Bowl Aquatics to try the swim team. She said I could try the Club Swim Team for a week and if I liked it she would sign me up. I loved it and tried out for the team and made it. I started in Sept. I was 10 years old on the 9-10 team. In a few months I made the Dec. Invite and JO's. I had only been swimming a few months. I Turned 11 and had to qualify again for the new 11-12 faster times for JO's, I didn't it! I made it for yards and meters. I continued to swim and improve, I moved from the Bronze group to the JO group.
A few years later I watched my brothers play water polo and really wanted to try water polo and be in a team sport. I knew I couldn't do Club Swim and Club Water Polo so I chose to join Rose Bowl Water Polo team.
I played this year for the Varsity team as a freshman on the Water Polo Team. When season was over some of my friends wanted me to do swim team. I had not practiced for swim in a few years so I gave it a shot. I joined our Varsity Swim Team(as a freshman) half way through there season. I was swimming faster than any of my old meet times. I currently swam in a Meet with 1300 swimmers and 85 in my event and I placed 11th in both events. Also taking time off both events in prelim and Finals. My mom being a swimmer keeps telling me I am a "natural" at swimming. After High School swim season is over I will continue swimming . I look forward to my next three years in high school and I believe I will achieve many of my goals. I didn't realize how much I missed competing. Swimming has taught me time management, discipline, hardship, discipline and hard work. I have learned how to deal with disappointment and the feeling of competing and my hard work paying off.
I know the right College will let me to continue to excel in my academics and swim which I really enjoy. Competing has made me well rounded with winning or defeats. Scoring points and representing my school is such a proud feeling. I am a team player and am always there to cheer on my teammates. In College I look forward to representing your team, continue working hard and being a team player.
