When I was 4, I was in ballet and gymnastics. My mom put me in swimming lessons in the summer. That next winter I did not want to wear my tutu for ballet. I told my mom “all I want to do is swim”. Neither one of my parents was a swimmer. My mom found an indoor pool an hour away from our house and I have been swimming since. I have never lived near the pool and in high school we don’t have a pool. We drive 30-45 minutes to get to a small pool at a club where the lanes are narrow and you can’t really swim fly. And there are no blocks at the pools I have access to.
I have not been able to do any double day practices because the pools are too far from school. Despite these conditions I feel that I have shown great potential and have been improving in every stroke. Breaststroke is my best stroke, and I am able to compete against athletes who have access to Olympic size pools. My times are consistent and current. I now have Futures qualifying times in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke events!! Competing is my favorite thing and I love to swim. My best friends are my teammates and other swimmers that I meet at competitions. I love my coaches and this life. Give me the opportunity to keep swimming and let me show you how much I can achieve.
