Hey! Who is Isabel Flenard? I am part of the class of 2023 at Highlands Ranch High School in beautiful Highlands Ranch, Colorado. I am proud to have an unweighted GPA of 4.0 and have always taken AP and honors classes throughout my high school career. I am also involved in the National Honor Society and I am part of the Girl’s Swim and Dive team where I have swum Varsity since Freshman year. I additionally swim on my club team, HRA (Highlands Ranch Aquatics), at the highest practice group level. My favorite events are currently the 200 IM, 200 freestyle, and 100 butterfly.
I joined the extraordinary sport of swimming at the young age of ten and little did I know that joining my local summer swim team six years ago would lead to a long journey filled with excitement, dedication, and resilience. Swimming has taught me incredible life lessons including the importance of perseverance, optimism, teamwork, time management, confidence, and most importantly, discipline. This beautiful sport, along with its amazing life lessons, supportive teammates, and the excitement of competition, have made me strive and aspire to continue to swim through college. My hope is to not only achieve my personal swimming and academic goals, but encourage and motivate those around me to help them achieve their own goals as well.
What lessons has swimming taught me throughout these past six years? I have learned that all competitive sports require extraordinary persistence and dedication. In life, we have all had our “ups-and-downs” at one time or another and in order to accomplish our goals, we must learn to constantly “get back up” and try again. Tenacity is key and swimming has taught me that valuable lesson. Swimming has also taught me the importance of teamwork. My teammates, who have also become my close friends, play an enormous role in my life and it is also because of them that I have fallen in love with the sport. In return, I always do my best to uplift everyone around me, cheering on my teammates and helping them push themselves to their limits, especially at practice. Additionally, the discipline needed for this sport has significantly boosted my academic performance in more ways than I can count. Getting assignments completed on time, doing the research, and putting in the work needed have become second nature.
Needless to say, the pool has become my second home, and I hope that I can continue to swim competitively at the college level. I am looking forward to sharing everything that I have learned with a great college swim team where I can be a great fit, and a school that can challenge me academically.
Thank you very much for your consideration.
