Growing up as a student-athlete, I have learned much about dedication, competition and being a loyal teammate. I decided to begin my swimming career much later than a lot of my fellow peers. I took the advice of my friends one day to join our middle school swim team. With no past experience and little knowledge of competitive swimming, I struggled to catch up with the competition. I doubted my ability, but with the help of my coach and teammates, I developed a love for the sport and the ambition to improve. The support and bonds I have formed within my current swim team are very imperative to me. The goals we set and unconditional support for one another, leads us to an outcome of victory, whether mentally or in the pool. I always encourage my teammates to strive for their their best and to preform with a positive attitude. Showing respect for each other and the other teams, is of vital importance. No matter win or lose, our sportsmanship shapes a great team. My swim team was rewarded the Sportsmanship Award from the Western Connecticut Swim Officials Association from the fall 2016 season. As a team, we were very honored and happy to receive this reward. As a future Captain during the fall of 2017, I seek to lead my team into a positive direction where we can pick up each other when we fall, overcome any challenging obstacles together, and to not give up on our goals. I will teach the underclassmen how to compete at a higher level and guide them preform with no fear.
For the past few years, I have continued to swim during my high school girl's swim team season as well as joining off-season teams to increase my endurance. With swimming, I also balance working as a lifeguard, playing softball in the spring, and keeping up good grades with a 3.6 GPA. I hope to continue swimming in college because I am passionate about the sport and cherish the bonds I form with my teammates and coaches. I also plan to advance in Criminal Justice as my major. School is very important to me, as well as swimming, and I am dedicated to the classes I take. As a student taking mainly Honors and Advance Placement courses, I get involved in my classes and manage my work-load very well. I am very well-organized and am always improving in my studies. At my high school, I have become a member of the World Language Honors Society and the Math Honors Society. These academic achievements have guided me to become more active in my school and to help any students who are struggling. Out of high school, I get involved in many different fun community service activities at my church. In our Youth Group, we have held 30 hour famines to raise awareness for third-world countries, and out-of-state missionary trips. I have gone on mission trips to North Carolina and Virginia to spread love and a helping hand to the people struggling in the community. These trips not only benefit the community, but they also strengthen my morals and character.
As an individual, I live a very healthy and positive lifestyle surrounded by my family, friends, and teammates. I choose to surround myself with positive energy and to take part in enjoyable activities. In my free time, I like to paint, cook and travel. I love going to different places and on adventures. I am always up for trying something new and going out of my comfort zone. In 2016, I surprised and challenged myself by going vegan. This was a major change to my lifestyle that I had to adapt too, but in the end, I have loved how it has affected me since. I have become a much more healthier person and I have been more active. My perspective has changed, and I know seek to be more kind and humble to the world. If I was given the opportunity to swim and learn at your college, I would be a humble and supportive teammate, with a competitive and dedicated edge.
