I am an incredibly dedicated person, and when I set my mind to something, I will not stop until my goal has been reached. This mindset is especially prevalent in swim, as well as in school.
During practice, I push myself to the limits, and constantly follow the catchphrases "no pain no gain," and "last one fast one." No matter how difficult a set becomes, and how tired I am, I know that the feeling of accomplishing the workout will be far more gratifying than not putting in an effort merely for rest.
Not only do I have high expectations for myself, but I try to make sure my teammates stay in line and do not lose motivation. I cheer everyone on and constantly remind them that hard practices, and putting in as much effort as possible is necessary to earn faster times. I naturally take on a leadership role, and find myself looking after my younger teammates. For example, during high school season I always start practice off by asking how everyone's day was, and make sure that everyone is in the right mindset. Aside from personal relationships, I am also the team DJ and make a new playlist everyday before practice to create an exciting and motivating practice environment or pre-meet bus hype. I am a great believer in positive environments, because dreading spending time withe people in a sport as great as swim is unmotivating.
Aside from the pool, school is very important to me. I may not be the valedictorian, however I put in a lot of effort in my classes. I definitely have to study a lot harder to earn good grades, but similar to my mindset for swim, it is necessary to be successful.
