The purpose of my personal statement is to express my desire to continue swimming collegiately with a working team that feels like a family while challenging myself academically.
I am currently a Junior at Miami Country Day School, and a member of the varsity and club swim teams. I started swimming in 6th grade and was moved up to varsity my 8th-grade year. In my 6th grade year, I was awarded the rookie of the year award, in my 7th-grade year I was awarded the coaches award, and in my 8th-grade year, I was awarded the rookie of the year award for varsity. Unfortunately, the Covid pandemic took away my opportunity to swim.
Over the last 9 months, I have been working extremely hard to better my times and make up for the progress lost due to the large break. My inability to practice for a year and a half affected my physical state and times. Since then, I've made academics and swimming my main priorities, spending anywhere from ten to thirteen hours daily between both activities. As a result, I've seen a large improvement in my grades and athletic performance. I believe it is my hard work and dedication that have brought me this far. At the end of this scholastic season, I was awarded most improved. Being able to receive criticism in both areas and grow from that is something I take pride in.
Thank you for taking the time to read my personal statement.
