The alarm clock rings every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 4:00 a.m during a school week calling at me to wake up. Any normal average person would just hit the snooze button over and over again until they realize, "I've got to get ready for school." I'm the kid that sets that alarm clock for a reason. Swim practice before school starts; that's the reason I set my alarm clock at 4:00 a.m every Monday, Wednesday, Friday of the school week. My fellow students call me crazy even some of my teachers, my fellow teammates and coaches welcome me to the grind.
Now the reason I set that alarm clock in the first place, has to do with the amount of work I have yet to get done; Such as working on my muscle memory to perfect and work on my technique, working on that finishing touch where I out-touch my opponent, and working day in and day out for the day of that championship meet. All this work leads to something even bigger that I aspire for, and that is to swim in college.
I've grown such a love for the sport of swimming that it's become second nature to me. Waking up everyday to be at practice and never missing a day. Through swimming I've learned what it is that I really want, it gives me a reason to wake up early and practice as hard as I do. The the reward is worth it. This is not the only goal I'm trying to achieve, in the near future I aspire to be a veterinarian and major in biology in college. I've had these two dreams of becoming a veterinarian and swimming in college for the longest time. I've dreamt these dreams many a time that I can already see myself in these positions. What makes me different from everyone else is my sense of time. Through swimming I've learned to understand and take advantage of my sense of time and that time is extremely valuable in and out of the pool. My dad taught me the 7 P's rule being, "Proper Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performances." I live by that saying. My coach and teachers look to me as a leader in school and in the pool. I am president of the Ecology club and varsity captain of my high school swim team.
Another aspect of my character has a lot to do with my perseverance and the big heart I contain in my small body. I never miss a day of practice, I am always on top of what I need to achieve in the near future. I make it happen. I don't get things handed to me easily, I need to work hard because not only has my talent gotten me this far but my work ethic has too. My attitude towards everything is always positive as well as the fact that I am passionate for what I do. I enjoy coming to practice at 4:00 a.m, and I enjoy going to school and learning. I come ready and prepared and always think ahead of the game. When it comes to school and swimming I am teachable and coachable as they say. I have respect for my fellow adults and always take their advice in the right way and apply it to my studies or my sport.
This all wraps up under the category of effort. I put forth more than maximum effort, I put in my "all" in everything I do. In the end my goals are simple: to go college, swim, major in biology, become a veterinarian, be the best possible fit for your school, and represent your school in the best way I possibly can. I know what I want to do, I've had it planned for a while, and I've never given up on that dream ever since the age of seven. My mind won't be changing anytime soon, in fact my fire is being fueled more and more each day for the will to achieve these goals. That is what makes me different from every other student athlete.
