My Name is Landry Paige Liston, and I am 16 years old. I currently live in Leesburg, Georgia, and swim for the club team Americus Blue Tide in Americus, Georgia. I have just completed my first year of high school and will be a rising sophomore at Lee County High School in Leesburg, Georgia. This past year, I completed many honor classes as well as one AP-level class. However, the sophomore class does not offer as much, as the freshman class did. Therefore, I will be taking fewer honors classes this coming year.
I have competed in the sport of swimming since I was around the age of 8. I learned to swim around the age of 1. With the help of my grandmother's pool and her passion for me to learn how to swim, I was doing the doggie paddle before I could walk. I have always loved the water and being in it. It was the place where I could do a handstand without falling on my face. I competed in many sports such as softball, volleyball, soccer, and gymnastics all before giving swimming a try. I plan to train over the summer to help with my upcoming sophomore cross-country season. This helps me be active when I am not able to attend swim. I normally train on land and in the water for around 11-13 hours a week. I am in the water from 4:30-6:30 PM Monday through Thursday and 9:00-11:00 AM on Saturdays. I tend to train on land in the mornings before practices. Unfortunately, my team does not provide a dry land program. So, I spend my time in the gyms or running 2-3 miles if I cannot get into the gym.
As a collegiate swimmer, one of my goals would be to participate in those bigger meets during the season. Some of those might be SEC and NCAA championships. I would also like to keep my GPA up while I am swimming on the collegiate team. It would mean a lot to me to have the highest GPA that I could while also swimming in college. I come from a very small swim team out of southwest Georgia. This means that I am very open to new things and could learn so much. By doing this, I could grow with the team and become a great competitor in the water. This is what could set me apart from the other swimmers in my class as well as keeping my grades as one of my biggest priorities as well. Competing on a small team also means that I do not have many teammates to help me out or encourage me. Therefore, swimming in college would give me that sense of being a part of a family as well as a team.
