The adrenaline, the excitement, the competition, the race, these are what I love most about swimming. My name is Jaley Hamilton, and I am about to embark on my junior year at Mount Vernon Senior High School. I have been fortunate enough to be born and raised in the small town of Mount Vernon, Indiana. Although it is small, I feel like Mount Vernon is mighty in the world of swimming with many great swimmers graduating from our program. I was fortunate enough to get involved with this amazing program at a young age, and began setting and crushing my goals immediately. Swimming continues to play a significant role in my life as I continue with both our club and high school team.
My sophomore swim season ended with all personal best times as well as a trip to the Indiana High School State Finals where I swam backstroke and freestyle on our relay teams. The highlight of this season was breaking both our high school and the Southwest Indiana High School Sectional record with our freestyle relay team, and being named All American status. As I look forward to my junior year, my goals are to continue to improve from my previous swim seasons, compete at the Indiana High School State Finals again, and to be in a leadership role on my team. I plan to continue working hard in the water, in the weight room, and in the classroom to achieve these goals.
Although, swim is my number one sport, I have also enjoyed participating in volleyball, golf, and unified track during high school.
Academically, I was selected as Academic Top 10 in my class for both my freshman and sophomore year. My goal is to maintain this honor and graduate in the Top 10 of the Class of 2025. In order to achieve this goal, I have taken honors courses and continue to put academics at the top of my priorities. I am also involved in many clubs and organizations including Business Professionals of America, Family Career and Community Leaders of America, Big Brothers Big Sisters, National Honor Society, Mount Vernon Girl's Leadership Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Mount Vernon High School Student Council, Key Club, 4H, Junior Leaders, and Special Olympics volunteer. In the future, I hope to pursue a degree in accounting.
My teammates say that I have an energetic personality. As a leader, I make it a top priority to be encouraging and accountable at all times, whether it's as a peer or as a teammate. I enjoy cheering on my teammates, and even my opponents. I have found that swim has connected me to many friendships with both my own teammates and my competitors.
At a young age, I decided that I wanted swimming to be part of my collegiate future. I am looking for a college that has a good team culture, strong academic program, and coaches that will help me reach my personal, team and academic goals while challenging me to be the best I can be.
