Personal Statement
I am Eva Allan, a Senior in High School in Auckland, New Zealand. My main stroke is freestyle and main events are 100m, 200m, & 400m freestyle. I have achieved multiple medal positions at the New Zealand National Age Group Championships.
I have been exposed to swimming all my life through school sports, swimming for fun, surf life saving and water-polo. Through these activities, coaches and teachers commented on my talent and encouraged me to into competitive swimming, which I started at the age of 12. Since then I have represented my club and region at local, regional, national and international events.
My drivers to continue swimming at college include: enjoyment, reward, purpose, goals, friends & connections. I thoroughly enjoy the hard work & fun of training and competing up to national level in New Zealand. I particularly enjoy the reward of pushing myself to my limits and am motivated by the purpose that swimming gives me and the goals I set myself to achieve. I have appreciated the extremely good friends and important connections I have made through swimming. The opportunity to swim in a US College program will offer me the most amazing experiences. This will include the opportunity to live, study and travel in another country, to extend myself academically and, to meet new people, as well as the chance to enjoy swimming at a new level. From an academic perspective I am a bright, enthusiastic and enquiring student who works to a high standard and achieves excellent results. I wish to continue to challenge myself academically through college. I have broad interests across business studies, social sciences, psychology, and art.
I am a hard working and passionate athlete and student driven by a team environment and enjoyment. I am most happy and successful when I have balance across my swimming and schoolwork. I am looking to extend myself further through a US college to achieve more of my goals.
