Personal Statement
As a member of the Scotland Youth Gold Squad, I am a dedicated, hard-working and driven swimmer with strengths in a broad range of disciplines and distances including freestyle, butterfly and individual medley events across short, middle and long distance. I train daily with East Kilbride Swimming Club, working under the guidance and supervision of the head coach Andy Figgins. I have an excellent work ethic and my typical weekly training programme delivers between 50 and 65 kilometres in the pool and I also undertake a tailored land based training program, developed and monitored by the Scottish Institute of Sport to support the development of my strength and conditioning. This program also encompasses stretching, activation and pre/post pool mobility sessions.
I am ambitious, with a real desire to succeed and fulfil my potential in both my swimming and academic pursuits. Throughout my swimming career to date, I have consistently demonstrated a track record of achievement and continuous improvement. I enjoy working as an individual swimmer but also thrive within a team environment and I was recently elected a team captain for Scotland North and West at the UK School Games. I also relish relay events and have competed and medalled at Club, District and National Level in these. Last year our team South Lanarkshire Swimming were champions at the Scottish National Age Group Championships.
I am currently studying for my Curriculum for Excellence Higher and Advanced Higher exams at Mearns Castle High School. I have aspirations to combine my future studies with my career in swimming to achieve a qualification in Sports Science.
