Personal Statement
I decided to become a swimmer from a young age, which was a hard decision because I knew the amount of work I would have to put in and the childhood I would have to give up. My passion for the sport was strong enough and I knew this would drive me each and every day to become the swimmer I dreamed of being. With over ten years of experience, I have seen the amount of hard work that I have gone through to try and improve myself and my swimming ability, it is this sense of satisfaction that drives me to pursue a collegiate level of swimming.
In my life I have always aspired to be the best at what I am doing, not only in the swimming world but academically. Swimming has taught me a lot about commitment and time management and I am not scared to put in the hard work to get where I want to be. With this help I pushed through high school getting the grades that I deserved and focused my time on the two things that mattered to me most; swimming and school.
The persevering and busy life I lead has not always been easy. For many years in swimming I felt like I was stuck in a system, not being able to achieve the national level I kept trying for. At the age of 14, I thought I had qualified for the national championships but was knocked out at the very last juncture. This was such such a distressing time as I had worked so hard for that place. However I learnt the lesson from failure and this was fundamental to my later success. This set back accelerated me into my goals and therefore I train harder and more determined than ever. The times like this have taught me to be the dedicated athlete I am today which I think would make me a perfect candidate for your team.
